John’s Story
15/06/2026
Well, my Stepping Stones story started 14 years ago when I hadn’t had any mental health help for many years. I started to go along to their one-to-one therapy, at first I didn’t think it would help but I kept going along. It finished, and I was able to start working again, it was a turning point for me.
After working for over 3 years my job ended and at first, I tried to deal with it by myself but I found it hard and I started to go backwards with my mental health. That’s when I remembered what the one-to-one therapy taught me and that you have to realise when you are not in a good place, this is when you should reach out and ask for help before you get too bad. That’s what I did, I contacted Stepping Stones and yet again they were there for me.
Since then, I’ve gone along to groups, I’ve did peer to peer training, walk leader training, and mental health first aid training so now I can help others that are struggling with mental health issues.
I’ve recently decided to become a volunteer to give back to Stepping Stones for all the help that they have given me.
