Stepping Stones are incredibly proud to have been honoured by the Scottish Parliament and the UK Parliament with motions recognising our contribution to mental health services for 35years 👏👏👏
Our Chief Officer Bronwyn O’Riordan, and our Chairperson Alison Punton met with Douglas McAllister MP to be presented with an EARLY DAY MOTION BY DOUGLAS MCALLISTER MP TO STEPPING STONES’ 35TH ANNIVERSARY

“That this House congratulates Stepping Stones, a mental health charity that helps people across West Dunbartonshire, on its 35th anniversary; notes that the member-led organisation was founded by local people determined to improve mental health awareness and support in their community; recognises its evolution into a trusted and well-established provider of mental health services, supporting around 1,000 referrals each year; commends its wide range of support, including peer-to-peer learning, counselling, psychoeducation, hospital drop-ins and its neurodiversity project; pays tribute to the dedication of its staff, volunteers, members and trustees whose commitment has sustained the charity for over three decades; acknowledges the challenges faced by voluntary organisations in securing funding and recruiting volunteer board members; and wishes Stepping Stones every success as it continues its invaluable work improving mental health and wellbeing across West Dunbartonshire.”

That the Parliament celebrates Stepping Stones, based in Clydebank, on marking their 35th anniversary in September 2026; understands that the charity was formed in 1991 after a group of locals came together to try and improve mental health in the area; notes that in 2006 they expanded their services and began providing services across West Dunbartonshire using rented accommodation, NHS and community premises; recognises that they offer a range of services to improve mental health, including peer support, group work, 1:1 support, Person Centred Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) -based Guided Self Help, neurodiversity support, training and psychoeducation, and volunteer opportunities; believes that Stepping Stones provide a vital service in West Dunbartonshire and are a lifeline to many; thanks the team for their tireless efforts to improve the mental wellbeing of the community and congratulates them on reaching this milestone and wishes them all the very best for the future.
